Sedona Mexican Food Restaurants

Ancient Indian Tribes had a diet primarily of corn and beans for thousands of years before the country of Mexico was founded. When the Spanish came to the region, they brought cattle and chicken along with other animals. They also introduced rice, coriander, oregano, black pepper, olive oil, a variety of vegetables, fruits, and peppers. Evolving over a period of time, the native ingredients combined with the Spanish introductions became what is known as Mexican cuisine.

Corn and beans were the cornerstone of diet for over 4,000 years. From this basic beginning it evolved with various chilies, sauces, vegetables, tomatoes and meats. Combination of cultures that mark Mexican history led to today's style of Mexican food. Styles vary depending upon what Mexican states border American states. Hence there is a Sonoran Style mostly found in Arizona, Mexican Style in New Mexico, Tex-Mex in Texas and a Baja Style mostly in California and Arizona.

Various chefs have made their own adaptations typically called Southwestern style Mexican cuisine. Although differing slightly in taste, Mexican food is known for its robust flavors, colorful presentation, variety of spices and heat of certain chilies.
